Report on Water Quality of Ganga Along the Ghats in Varanasi
Report Month: May 2009
Report dated : 04-06-2009
Reporter: Swatcha Ganga Research Laboratory
Report : In the month of May 2009 , 32 nos. of samples were collected from Ganga water along the ghats between Mahadev ghat in the upstream to Varuna in the downstream of Varanasi-Ganga for the analysis of temperature, total dissolved solids, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, Biological oxygen demand and Fecal coliform parameters. Characteristics of Ganga water quality observed at the various sampling locations are as presented below:

Remark:.
Ø Almost during all the sampling occasions the weather has been quite windy.
Ø This has added to diffusion and dispersion quality of the river and which is reflected in the test results of Ganga water quality measured during the month of May 09.
Ø There is increase in DO, BOD&FCC values at few sampling locations and also at few locations there is decrease in the values of above water quality parameters.
Ø The Ganga water temperature in this period was between 26-28 degree celsius.
